Why Register?
Cub Scouting works because parents show up. When you take a job — even a small one — you model for your Scout how we participate in the community, how we lead, and how we take care of our neighbors. You also make the program better for every kid in the pack.
You do not have to run the pack.
Help at one event. Assist a den. Own fundraising. Back up the Committee Chair. “Maybe” is a fine first answer. We will pair you with someone who has done it.
There are no pack dues for adult leaders. The pack reimburses the national and Greater California Council membership fees. Save the receipt and send it to the Treasurer (copy the Committee Chair).

Talk to the Committee Chair, Cubmaster, or Membership Coordinator before you start the application so we can match you to a position and have the Chartered Organization Representative (COR) ready to approve it.

 
What “registered volunteer” means
Not all parent volunteers need to be fully-registered Scout Leader.
However, to serve as a den leader, assistant, committee member, or regular adult around youth, you complete:
  2. Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT)
  3. California AB-506 (Mandated Reporter Training + Live Scan)
  4. The Scouting America adult application and national background check
  5. Approval by the Chartered Organization Representative
  • Note: A Live Scan done for a school, job, or another club does not transfer. Use the Greater California Council (GCC) form so results go to our council.
 
Step 1 — my.scouting.org account
  1. Go to https://my.scouting.org
  2. Create an account, or sign in if you already have one. Do not make a second account.
  3. Use the same email on the adult application.

Step 2 — Safeguarding Youth Training
Required Scouting America course. About 90 minutes the first time. Must be current before the application can be approved. Subsequent annual renewals require the short 15-minute online training.

  2. Open the training dashboard and complete Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT)
  3. Save the certificate
Step 3 — California Mandated Reporter Training (AB-506)
Separate from Safeguarding Youth Training. About 2 hours, one-time.

Step 4 — Live Scan fingerprints (AB-506)
Bring a government photo ID. Use the Greater California Council path only.

Fees listed on that site as of this date: fingerprint rolling $26 + FBI $17.

Results go to council, not to you. Same-day to a few days is common; it can take longer. Start this before you need to camp or lead a den.
Step 5 — Adult application
  1. https://beascout.scouting.org — search Pack 1592, Roseville. Use Apply Now, or ask us for an invite link.
  2. Complete the adult application. It asks for a Social Security number for Scouting America’s national background check (this is in addition to Live Scan). Unit approvers do not see the SSN.
  3. Agree to the background check and terms.
  4. Pay the national and council membership fees when prompted. Keep the receipt. The pack reimburses those fees — there are no separate pack dues for adult leaders.
  5. The application waits until Safeguarding Youth Training is on file and the Chartered Organization Representative approves it.
Step 6 — Tell the pack so we can approve it
Email pack1592@gmail.com when the application is in:
  • Your name and the email used on my.scouting.org
  • Intended role (den leader or assistant, committee member, fundraising, event helper who will register, etc.)
  • Safeguarding Youth Training complete? Mandated Reporter uploaded? Live Scan done?
Only the Chartered Organization Representative can approve an adult application. The Committee Chair and Cubmaster can recommend. You should get two emails from Scouting America; the second one (background check complete) means you are registered.
Step 7 — After you are registered
  • Take the short position-specific training in https://my.scouting.org for your job (Den Leader, Committee Member, etc.)
  • The pack adds you in Scoutbook for roster, calendar, and two-deep planning
  • Keep Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT)current each year
The monthly Committee meeting is the 3rd Wednesday each month, 7:00 p.m. Location will be listed in the Scoutbook calendar.
