How Pack 1592 Came to Be
Our story begins with success in scouting. After pack 146 had grown too large, hosting nearly 100 boys and encompassing 4 elementary schools in northwest Roseville, Mark Orgeron, the Iron horse district executive, was instructed by the Golden Empire Council to split the schools and create a new pack.
Recruiting for new boys and taking the boys from 146, who attend Blue Oaks and Diamond Creek Elementary, Pack 1592 was established in the fall of 2006 and was numbered after the Roseville Fire Fighters Association, Local 1592.
The Roseville FF Association was our first charter organization, President Rick Edgar was our first charter organization rep (although not officially). He helped us get off the ground, and without them we would not have been able to exist.
Pack 146 donated equipment to us, and a computer tracking system for advancements, to help us get established. Pack 146 also gave us our own “Cubbie” bowling pin so we may keep some of our old traditions, but most importantly pack 146 lent us their Pinewood derby track so we would be able to race on our first year.
During our first year, our Webelos were invited to carry the American and California flags (borrowed from Boy Scout Troop 828) during an opening ceremony with the Citrus Heights Marching band for a community BBQ. The chairman of the festivities was a gentleman named Dick Cowan he was so impressed with our boys he offered his card and any help we might need. This was great for us as we did not have much in the way of funds for our own Flags. Mr. Cowan generously donated the funds to purchase our own American, California, and pack flag along with the necessary poles, toppers, and carrying cases.
In the fall of 2007 pack 1592 changed from being chartered by the Roseville FF Association to Clark Sullivan Construction, and Dick Cowan, becoming our Charter Organization Representative. Mr. Cowan, an Eagle Scout in his own right, graciously attended the 2008 Pinewood Derby as the official judge for Best Car Designs.
Once again, in the Summer of 2010 we find ourselves changing our charter. This time we have been chartered by the Kiwanis Club of Roseville, an excellent organization which has previously sponsored events for our boys, such as the 2009 Fall Fishing Derby! Michael Herbert is our Charter Organization Representative, father of one of our own Pack 1592 Cub Scouts, a member of our leadership committee and a Life Cub Scout himself. THANK YOU KIWANIS!
Pack 1592 has had a short but significant history that has impacted the community by:
~ Collecting for the Salvation Army
~ Collecting food for the Scouting for Food program
~ Participating in the Toys for Troops toy drive
~ Building a crossing guard shed for Blue Oaks Elementary School
~ Christmas Caroling in Del Webb sun city
~ Numerous color guard opportunities for other agencies
~ And just being good scouts
We look forward to the years ahead as we continue to grow, to train up our boys to be leaders in the community,Learn more about Scouting at The Boy Scouts of America website.
